Obtaining Free Mulch For Your Garden – Uses And Methods Of Getting It
Mulch is any matter that is used to cover the soil as a protective layer to modify the effects of the climate. Sometimes mulching is required for the good growth and development of the garden. Many gardeners are discovering a source of mulch that has been available freely all the time. Some forms of free mulch include wood shavings, grass clippings, shredded newspaper and plant trimmings. These items have been present in the garden all along, they can be used as and when the need arises.
Many gardeners spread the grass clippings across the yard or around the trees. This acts as a kind of mulch on the soil by preventing evaporation and keeping the soil moist. Thus, it helps to conserve water and you may not need to water the plants very often. It also prevents weeds from growing in the area. Plants and trees that have trouble staying green and healthy can benefit from mulching. All that needs to be done is to spread the grass trimmings around the plant in a small layer. One can choose the mulching priority, depending on the growth of the plants or the condition of the yard. If the yard is green and healthy, it may not require mulching. The plants and shrubs may, on the other hand need some mulching care.

Getting Rid of Pest Crows
âYouâre as intelligent as a crowâ wouldnât be an insult! This pest bird is amazingly intelligent. Crows are capable of memorizing garbage routes, and they will forage around every Tuesday when your garbage is hauled out to the curb. They may even show up every Sunday afternoon to the family BBQ in the back yard to scavenge for leftovers. In no time at all, this pest crow has parked his whole family and friends in the trees on your property. They, too, are family oriented and have a tendency to stay where they are born and raised. Remember the opening scene of Steele Magnolias, as Drum Eatenton is shooting at birds in the trees of his back yard with his shotgun in preparation for his daughterâs afternoon wedding reception.
Using state of the art technology as a bird deterrent in a movie scene might not be as humorous as a shot gun, in everyday life it would be a much more humane and safe way to rid your trees of pest birds. The results, however, would be as dramatic.
Getting My Life Organized
Most people working full-time jobs quickly let things get out of control. Sometimes organization is just a fantasy word that seems so far out of reach. Organizing your home not only means getting things in order, but it also means getting rid of unused stored junk.
A lot of families have a room in their home that they specifically use for junk or storage. There really is no need for this storage area to also double as a disaster area. Junky rooms can pose a fire hazard. Heaps can also grow dangerous mold when they trap humidity inside. Heaps can also harbor unnoticed insects and be a real health risk for you and your family.
You may need to make a small investment in shelving and storage containers to really clean up this kind of mess. Choose deep or long containers that have a sealing lid to keep out pests and moisture. Large containers are great places to store out of season clothing or maternity clothes that you are saving for the future. Get one large one to save heirlooms as well. Baby clothes, family photos, jewelry boxes and other things that you do not want touched can be safely sealed away in a big plastic container.
Labeling these things is a must unless you can clearly see through the side what is inside. You can stack these together to make more space, but if you have small children in the home, keep in mind that they will eventually try to climb the playground that you have made. You can anchor straps to the studs, holding the containers snug against the wall to childproof. Make sure that the straps attach to the wall behind the container so that you do not create a space large enough for a child to fall through and get hung. Safety should be your number one concern and you may want to consult a childproofing expert to help you come up with an organization plan.
Building large shelves can be a big help when organizing. Again, make sure that all shelves are anchored to the wall and sturdy enough to hold the weight of a child in case they climb. Shelves up high can keep delicate and valuable items out of children’s reach. You can really turn your junk room into a thing of beauty without spending a lot of money.
Another good idea is to hang a curtain the length of the room to keep your storage wall out of sight. Hanging rods and rolling racks are very convenient for storing winter coats or dress clothes that need to be hung. Make sure that you have sturdy clothes hangers to support the weight. Suddenly you have room for toys or a small office!
